My project investigates how we can use our (largely unexplained) connection with the Ocean to improve mental wellbeing in coastal regions.
The inspiration for my project draws upon my experience working at Claire Potter Design - where I specialised in marine conservation and plastic pollution provention. During this time, I formed a really powerful connection with the Ocean as I attempted to protect it from human harm. This made me think about how this feeling of purpose could be used to improve the lives of others.
Having regularly led beach cleans as a Surfers Against Sewage volunteer, I saw the joy that being close to the Ocean could bring people. My project focusses on how material collected on these beach cleans can be sorted and processed to create a meaningful takeaway item for participants; all built using equipment designed by myself.
To increase the chances of project success, I have been drawing on assistance from my network of sustainability experts, marine consultants and health & wellbeing specialists. I can't wait to share this with you!
